Cakes are cheap and made in a unique way, which is steamed in bamboos, this is still popular. Kue putu is one of various traditional Indonesian wet cakes. This type of cake is made from coarse-grained rice flour and contains brown sugar and grated coconut as a complement to the presentation.

Kue putu itself has spread to other countries, such as Singapore and Malaysia, although the name and shape for this cake is slightly different, but it tastes the same as traditional Indonesian putu cake itself. Here's a recipe for how to make Kue Putu that is practical and easy at home.

Material:
  • 375 grams of dry rice flour
  • 125 grams of brown sugar, thinly sliced
  • 300 ml of water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 pieces of pandan leaves
  • ½ teaspoon green coloring
  • 150 grams of grated coconut, steamed with a little salt
HOW TO MAKE PUTU CAKES:
  1. Boil water with salt, pandan leaves and green coloring to boil. Lift, leave warm then pour into rice flour little by little while stirring by hand until fine grained.
  2. Prepare a coarse filter, add the flour mixture, rub it until the flour mixture is finely granulated, filled.
  3. Take a 30-ml cup, pour 1/2 tbsp flour mixture, hole the center with the index finger, add brown sugar, cover with ½ tbsp flour mixture but do not press it, evenly.
  4. Turn the mold containing the mixture onto a flat baking sheet with banana leaves, remove the mold. 
  5. Adjust the distance between the dough that has been printed, do not close together.
  6. Steam with high heat for 10 minutes, lift and serve while hot with coconut sprinkles.
Tips:

If using bamboo as a mold, add a small piece of banana leaf or pandanus, as a base for mold, fill with flour and sugar. Place the bamboo in a standing condition just above the steam holes, if the hole is large and sparse)

Substitutes for coloring can use suji leaves, make suji water first, then add water and measure 300 ml.
